what is a socket error
Mike,
A socket error means that your NZB software is having trouble connecting to the Usenet server. In many programming languages, the software object that the programmer uses to implement a connection between a client program and a server program is, for some reason, called a “socket”.
Most of the time you will get a more user-friendly error message. But whenever a socket is mentioned, there is some sort of connection problem. The server might be off-line for repairs, or refusing your connection because there is a problem with your account, etc.
Sometimes there is a glitch in your computer, modem, and/or router, and rebooting all three will clear up the problem. If not, then call your ISP or Usenet provider and ask them if they have a problem on their end.
Admin
twice now i have switched from newserver with the result that the first download works flawlessly. The second time I try it though all parts are missing when i check the files. As result I get nothing more out of it.
Help?
What do you mean by “switched from newserver”?
I am now using eweka to access Usenet. Like i said this worked once.
and recently the message i get is “Logging on to Eweka without SSL”
which stays there forever.
I know my account is active though.
What software are you using, and what are your server port settings?
Mac OS X 10.5.8
Name : Eweka
URL : newsreader63.eweka.nl
8 connections
port 119
SSl off
Ok, but what Usenet client software? SuperNZB?
yes superNZB
If you turn on SuperNZB’s debug feature, it will create a log file which might contain a useful clue. Please see this page:

Also, you can try using the “Test News Server” feature on the “Help” menu.
