PixNewsPro - The Non-Stop
Binary Newsgroup Downloader

v1.5.0 Upgrade

Released October 8, 2005

This is a FREE upgrade

    Changes in this version:
  1. This version fixes an uncommon yEnc-decoding problem. The problem would occur when somebody posted a file in yEnc format, and their news server appended a footer to the bottom of the post, such as: "Bla-bla-bla is the best news service. Go to www.blahblahblah.com." PixNewsPro would not look for such a footer and would assume it was part of the data. Now it will stop at the end of the yEnc-encoded data. This problem was only noticable with small files. Large files are almost always posted with PAR files, so the un-PAR-ing process would remove the extra, un-wanted data. Of course, that uses up some precious PAR data, so even if you have not noticed any problems, you should upgrade to this version. If you notice any new bugs, please be sure to notify us ASAP.
Instructions if you are running PixNewsPro v1.0 or greater:
  1. If you are running a version older than 1.4.0, and if you have "Scan on Launch" turned on, turn it off before you upgrade.
Go to File -> PixNews Settings -> Start/Stop.
  2. Make a copy of your current PixNewsPro.exe file.
  3. Download PixNewsPro v1.5.0: EXE (1mb) or ZIP (260kb).
  4. If appropriate, unzip the pnp150.zip file.
  5. Copy the new PixNewsPro.exe file into your PixNewsPro folder.
  6. Make sure that you copy the file and not just make a shortcut. The shortcut won't work. Shortcut icons have little black arrows at the lower left. If Windows is making shortcuts when you drag the PixNewsPro.exe file, then hold down the right mouse button when you drag. When you let go of the button, you will get a menu where you can choose 'Move Here.'
