PixNewsLite
Binary Newsgroup Downloader Online Manual
1) Introduction
With PixNewsLite, you specify a news server, enter one or more newsgroups, and then click the Scan button to start downloading files from your news server. You can use your news reader to find the list of available newsgroups on your ISP's news server.
PixNewsLite works by processing the articles in a newsgroup in sequential order. It will look at each article to
find JPEG and GIF image files. When it finds one, it will download and decode it, and store it in the Downloads
folder. This approach eliminates the World Wide Wait, and allows PixNewsLite to acquire large numbers of files
for you with very little effort on your part. Then, once you have the files on your computer, you can use a program
like WatchFast to rapidly sort through them.
2) The Main Window
On top, is the the advertising area, which is only present until you have registered PixNewsLite. If you are interested in one of the messages, click the Go Now! button to the right to go to the associated web page. You can use the small arrow buttons to move back and forth among the adverts in case the one you wanted went by, or you want to see what else is there.
On the left, beneath the advertising area, is the newsgroup area. The buttons on the left determine which newsgroup PixNewsLite will start downloading from when you click the Scan button. To choose a newsgroup other than the top one, click the button to the left of the newsgroup so that the ">" moves to that button.
Type your newsgroup(s) into the newsgroup box(es).
The boxes to the right of the newsgroups are the numbers of the articles that PixNewsLite will begin to download when you click Scan. You do not need to change these numbers unless PixNewsLite appears to be stuck on an article. In that case, you can click the Stop button, add one to the number, and click Scan again. PixNewsLite will start downloading on the next article.
To the right of the newsgroup area, you will see three buttons. Scan tells PixNewsLite to start downloading, Stop tells it to stop downloading, and the Stuff button will show you a menu of options.
Below the three buttons, PixNewsLite shows you the folder where it puts files that it downloads. You can not change this folder, but you can open it by clicking the Open button.
In the News Server Info area, you must enter your news server's URL. If you don't know this, you need to ask your internet service provider. They can also tell you if you need to enter a username/password or not.
The lower part of the window is the status area where PixNewsLite keeps you informed of what it is doing while it is downloading.
