Quick and Easy Web-Page Text Replacement

Server Settings

The Server Setup window is where you tell PageChanger how to access your FTP server so it can upload files. If you are only going to use PageChanger to modify your pages, you don't need to fill out the settings here.

FTP URL - This is the address of your FTP server. It usually looks like this:

ftp.yourdomain.com.

Most hosting companies will also allow you to just use the domain:

yourdomain.com

You can also use the IP address of your web site.

Username and Password - Only your ISP can tell you what to enter here, and it is possible that these will be different than the username/password you use to retrieve your email.

Port - Port 21 is the standard FTP port, but your hosting company can change it. If they do so, they only way to find the correct port is to call them and ask them.

Web Directory - This is the folder where you put your web pages. This setting allows PageChanger to achieve its incredible speed, so it is worth it to take the time to figure it out. Hosting companies configure their servers in a variety of ways, so there is no standard setting here.

The best way to discover this setting is to use an FTP program and navigate to your home page. In most FTP programs, you can right-click on your index.html page (or whatever it is named), choose "Properties", or "Get Info" on the Mac, and see the path to the file. Or you can just look at the folder tree, or perhaps look in the program log and see the "CWD" (change working directory) command that the program issued to the server to get you there. Here are some examples of what you should enter for this setting:

/www
/web
/yourdomain/www
/home/yourdomain/www

Web Server - This is the URL that you give to people when you tell them how to go to your web site. PageChanger uses this to automatically display pages after it uploads them. In most cases, it will be:

www.yourdomain.com

Connect Automatically - When this box is checked, PageChanger will automatically connect to your FTP server when it starts up.
