PageChanger

Quick and Easy Web-Page Text Replacement

Automatic Uploading

PageChanger will use this setting in combination with the "Web Directory" setting on the Server Setup window to automatically figure out where to upload files.

Suppose you have your web pages stored in a folder named MySite. The path to that folder might be:

C:\Documents\MySite

(On the Macintosh, it would be different of course, but it doesn't actually matter what the path is.) When you select a file with PageChanger, it will look at its path and strip off everything you have set for "Home Folder" here on the "Upload Setup" window. It will then combine that with the "Web Directory" setting to figure out the correct FTP path. Suppose that within your MyWebSite folder, you have a folder named "Stuff", and within that folder, you have a file named "index.html". The path to that file would be:

C:\Documents\MySite\Stuff\index.html

PageChanger would then strip off the "C:\Documents\MySite\" part and know to upload it to the "Stuff" folder on your FTP server.

So, it doesn't matter where you web-site folder is stored on your computer. All that you need to do here is select the folder where your index.html file is stored. (Or your index.htm file, or whatever your hosting company has configured it to be called.)

Whichever upload method you use, PageChanger will show you where it is going to upload the file before it does so. PageChanger also keeps a log of what it uploaded where. You can open the log file via the "Open App Data Folder" command on the "Help" menu. These features combined with the automatic backup feature makes it easy to track down and rectify mistakes. Also, if you follow the PageChanger model of "change one file, upload it, and then check it" you will be able to catch errors immediately.
