The Binary Newsgroup Downloader
NewzScape is designed to run through binary newsgroups, downloading everything it finds. It will run non-stop,
scouring your favorite newsgroups day after day. All that you need to do is check the Downloads folder from
time-to-time to see what files have been downloaded.

Upgrade Instructions
Windows upgrade from Beta 18 or higher - Just run the installer.
Windows upgrade from older versions - NewzScape has been modified to comply with the new security
restrictions of Windows Vista. Windows XP users will have to move a few files around, so
be sure to read the Vista note below. The adjustments only take a minute.
Mac OSX Upgrade From Any Version - Drag the NewzScape program from the DMG into your existing folder, and
replace the existing program.
Key features not found in PixNewsPro:
- PixNewsPro only has one Parts folder, and some of you have run up against the
limit of files-per-folder imposed by the operating system. NewzScape allows you to
assign Parts and Downloads folders to each newsgroup.
- NewzScape will run on Windows XP Pro x64, and PixNewsPro will not. (x64 is the
new 64-bit version of Windows.)
- Many of you use hundreds of keywords to filter posts. NewzScape makes
managing large numbers of keywords much easier.
- PixNewsPro does not have BASE-64 decoding, which is no longer in wide
use. However, in some newsgroups the main contributor will use BASE-64, and in
those cases it is important to support it. NewzScape can decode BASE-64 posts.
- Those of you who use lots of Downloaders will now have more screen space due
to NewzScape’s new blade mode which lets you shrink your Downloaders to a
much smaller size.
- NewzScape can connect on news-server ports other than the standard 119,
which PixNewsPro cannot do.
- NewzScape has DupeNuker built in.
- NewzScape has a Coming-Soon window where you can quickly see what multi-part
files are being worked on without having to look through thousands of files in your
Parts folder.
- NewzScape allows power users to easily manage many download folders. See the
Download Folders window.
- NewzScape has a Preview Posts feature that allows you to step through posts
and decide which ones to download, as well as block un-desirable posters.
- NewzScape can run from the Windows system tray.
Windows Vista Note

Starting with version 0.1.8, NewzScape has been changed to comply with the new Windows Vista security guidelines. NewzScape will now
store most of its data in the "Application Data" folder. That is the "official" folder where programs are supposed
to store such data. But NewzScape will not automatically move your current data there, so you must do it yourself.
The app-data folder is invisible, so to find it you will have to tell Windows to show invisible folders. To do
that, go into your "Folder Options" control panel and click the "View" tab where you will find the option.
On Windows XP, the app-data folder is located here if your username is Bob:
C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Application Data
On Windows Vista, it would be here:
C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming
Inside this folder, create a new folder named "NewzScape" and within that folder, you need to move
your current NewzScape.sdb file, and the Parts, Downloads, and Newsgroups folders. All of these are in your
current NewzScape folder. If you have setup NewzScape to store parts and downloads in other folders, they can
remain where they are.
This version of NewzScape has a new command on the "Help" menu that will open the app-data folder for you.
Note: NewzScape is compatible with DupeNuker v3.0.0 or higher.
