480 - Authentication Required

Question: My NewzScape has been working perfectly for many months, but a few days ago I began to receive the flashing message "480 authentication required" in the status line when I attempted to scan a newsgroup. Please advise...

Answer: "Authentication" is a fancy term for "Username and Password." Your ISP has probably re-arranged their news server set-up and not notified their customers, which is typical. Call them and see what's going on; you probably just need to enter a different news-server username into NewzScape. If for some reason, you can no longer access their server, take a look at our news service, which is probably a lot better anyway.
